Introduction:

We almost canceled our reservation at this place because we were so turned off by the high prices, but we were very glad we stuck with the plan.

The Basics:

Overall Rating: 4.3/5

Price per night / Discounts: $56 / 10% off with KOA membership

Campground website: Pictured Rocks KOA

Our Site #: 11

Privacy Rating (how spacious and private do the sites feel):

5/5: We had an excellent site along the back perimeter. It was huge and heavily treed in all directions. While we could certainly see our neighbors, as commercial campgrounds go, this was one of the best. We were very happy with the amount of privacy we had.

Location Rating (accessibility to points of interest or to major highways):

5/5: This park was located just about 10 to 15 minutes from the Munising entrance of Pictured Rocks. Really, you can't get much closer to the park. There's not a ton in Munising, but you can get your necessities taken care of. There are a couple huge, convenient gas stations on the same road, as well as a decent grocery store. Overall, the location was wonderful.

Site Quality and Big Rig Accessibility Rating (utilities and accessibility of campground hook ups):

4/5: This was a water/electric site, but the site utilities worked well and we had no problem with leveling. Roads were reasonably wide, trees were appropriately trimmed back, and navigating the campground in our motorhome was pretty easy. The only issue we had was with their printed campground map which, for some reason, was not drawn to scale. That caused some confusion the first time we drove to our site, but it wasn't a huge issue. Just realize, the current map is not completely accurate.

Technology and Customer Service Rating (online resources, reservations, campground wifi, and staff):

5/5: Like all KOA's, you can make your reservations for this park online. Check-in was friendly and quick and the staff onsite were always friendly and helpful.

Overall Value Rating (the overall value of the campground; was it overpriced for what it was?):

2.5/5: At the end of the day, this place was still overpriced for what it was. $56 per night for a water/electric site is just crazy. But, they did do a good job providing value. Our site, and most other sites we saw, were very large, private, and well maintained. The utilities worked well and we were within spitting distance of Pictured Rocks. As private campgrounds go, this was a really good spot. If it was $40 per night, it would be a great value. At $56, it was just OK.

Summary:

Leading up to our stay here, I almost canceled our reservation and booked a competing campground that offered full hook ups for about $40 per night. But that place was just a big open field with no trees, and we figured we might as well try this place out. We are so glad we stuck with the original plan. Our site was perfect for our needs and offered convenient access to the sights nearby. We would absolutely stay here again if we were to return to Munising.
