The Basics:

Overall Rating: 4.4/5

Price per night / Discounts: $25 / None

Campground website: Homolovi State Park

Our Site #: 24

Privacy Rating (how spacious and private do the sites feel):

5/5: While there is no foliage to speak of, because the sites are so large and so well spaced, you will never feel cramped in this campground. Our site was a pull off that was over 100 feet long! Some sites are pull-throughs while others are back-ins, but they are all nicely set off from one another. This is an excellent campground in terms of spaciousness and privacy.

Location Rating (accessibility to points of interest or to major highways):

4/5: If you're looking for a convenient stop while traveling I-40 through Winslow, this is a great location. It is right off the highway and just about 10 minutes down the road from Winslow. As for other local features, the Meteor Crater is about 45 minutes west of the campground, and Petrified Forest National Park is about an hour east of it. Obviously, it would be nice to be a bit closer to these spots, but the middle of northern Arizona is pretty desolate, and at least the drives to these attractions are not difficult.

Site Quality and Big Rig Accessibility Rating (utilities and accessibility of campground hook ups):

4/5: Most of the sites were pretty level and very large. The loops are easy to maneuver through and presented no problems. The sites are water/electric only and the campground turns the water off during the winter, so there wasn't much for us to hook up to. We did lose power one day and, from talking to the ranger, it sounds like that happens on occasion. Luckily, they got us back up and running pretty quickly. There is a convenient dump station on the way out of the campground.

Technology and Customer Service Rating (online resources, reservations, and staff):

5/5: As always, Arizona state parks are fantastic. Their online reservation system is quick and convenient, and everyone we've ever dealt with at the campgrounds has been top notch.

Internet Availability Rating (Verizon coverage or campground wifi):

4/5: No wifi, but AT&T worked fine.

Summary:

While I wouldn't consider this a destination campground, it's certainly a convenient spot to stop along I-40 to check out Winslow, Petrified Forest National Park, and the meteor crater. The park exists to protect a set of ruins in the park itself. We never went to check them out, but others we know enjoyed seeing them. Be aware, the park turns off the water during the winter, so when we were there in early March, we used our fresh water tank. There is potable water available for those who need to top off their tanks.
