Campground website: Cypress Morro RV Park

Our Site #: 26

Privacy Rating (how spacious and private do the sites feel):

1/5: Privacy here is non-existent. It was one of the tightest campgrounds we've ever stayed in, with minimal spacing between sites. We lucked out with a site on the end. For folks in the middle, it is definitely 'snug.'

Location Rating (accessibility to points of interest or to major highways):

5.0/5: For purposes of exploring the central coast, Cypress Morro RV Park simply could not be better located. The campground is just two blocks from Morro Bay's waterfront, so we routinely walked down to the boardwalk as well as up to Main Street in the other direction. Several sections of Morro Bay State Park are easily accessible by foot, or a quick car ride. Morro Bay is about 15 minutes from San Luis Obispo, 40 minutes from Paso Robles, and right on the Pacific Coast Highway. It is a terrific location for exploring the area.

Site Quality and Big Rig Accessibility Rating (utilities and accessibility of campground hook ups):

3.0/5: Sites are 30 amp only and the owners warned us when we called that big RVs sometimes struggle with the electric. We found that to be accurate. The few times we forgot about the situation, we overloaded the electric and quickly blew breakers. For the most part, it was fine though. You just can't turn everything on at once if you're in a big camper. Otherwise, if they say you can fit, you can fit. They will help guide you into your spot and, unlike in most places, we were happy to take their advice. They really know what they're talking about and made it much easier to get in. Other utilities worked fine.

Technology and Customer Service Rating (online resources, reservations, campground wifi, and staff):

4.0/5: There was no technology to speak of. The whole campground is run by a husband and wife and they handle everything. I don't even think they have a website. But they are both very friendly and helpful and they definitely work hard to keep the place nice. They do have wifi and it worked well during our stay.

Overall Value Rating (the overall value of the campground; was it overpriced for what it was?):

5.0/5: We thought the monthly rate we paid was more than reasonable given this park's location. While the nightly rate of $49 may seem a bit high, if you're trying to explore this area, and you want to be within walking distance of the waterfront, it's worth it. Because we had a monthly site, we did have to pay electric and were surprised by how costly that bill was. The rate starts at 25 cents per KWH and then goes up to 33 cents after a certain amount, so it ended up being quite a bit. But, all things considered, we thought the value was quite good.

Summary:

If you're looking for a place to stay in downtown Morro Bay, it really doesn't get much better than this. It is within walking distance of not only restaurants and shopping, but Morro Rock itself, as well as other parts of the state park. The location is also fantastic for exploring the nearby towns of San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Paso Robles, and the Pacific Coast Highway. The park is very, very tight, with sites lined up right next to one another, but our neighbors were all quiet and respectful and the owners were friendly. We enjoyed our visit and would return to this park if we found ourselves in the area again.
